CR is Loving – A bit of Light Reading

Wow, it’s amazing how quickly a four day week flies by!
With Saturday edging ever-closer I am already giving some thought to which book I will attack in my windows of free time.

Like a lot of women, I don’t get the chance to read often. But when I do I make the most of it!

This got me thinking about the best of the best, which I thought I would share with you.
This week, CR is Loving a bit of light reading…

Pearls of Willsdom – Sarah Wills

If you are in need of a good belly laugh, look no further – Sarah Wills has you covered.  Her blog  looks at all sides of life, marriage and motherhood – the good, the bad and the ugly.  We couldn’t do Sarah’s writing justice, so figured we would let her About Me speak for herself:

Sarah lives in Brisbane, Australia, and spent a decade working in the world of corporate Public Relations before commencing her own breeding programme in 2011. As a mother of two daughters, Sarah enjoys a chuckle (often at herself) and writing about the funny side of life. She hates sharks and loathes cooking, but treasures the ‘1994 Most Promising Competitor’ award won at the Bundaberg Drama Eisteddfod. She continues to fight a losing battle to stop laughing at her own jokes, and would rather give up air than sugar.

See what we mean? Yep. Get there.

Walking on Trampolines – Frances Whiting

Frances Whiting has been writing for the Sunday Mail for 20 years, but Walking on Trampolines is perhaps my favourite of her works. Walking on Trampolines is the perfect companion to your cuppa (or glass of red). It’s the book you read while wrapped up in your doona on a winter night. The novel is a sometimes heart-warming, sometimes devastating story of female friendship, love, mental illness, family and loss. All wrapped up in a consuming tale that will make you smile, chuckle and keep you turning every page.

Read more about the novel here.

Women’s Legal Service Toolkit

We have talked about our love for Women’s Legal Service Queensland before – but they are getting another dose of praise from us this week for their comprehensive legal toolkit.

WLSQ have produced a series of workbooks containing valuable information on issues like separation, divorce, domestic violence, custody, Child Support. The advice is reliable, easy to understand and up-to-date.

And it is all available for free download here.

Bossypants – Tina Fey

Tina Fey is one of the strongest comedians the US has to offer. She co-wrote Mean Girls, wrote and starred in 30 Rock and has hosted the past 2 Golden Globes award ceremonies alongside fellow comedy-superstar-and-best-friend, Amy Poehler.

Tina is also a badass feminist, and is refreshingly honest about herself, her life and the state of the world. This combination of talent and humility makes for one stella autobiography.

From the over-exaggerated joys of breastfeeding to the working mom’s inner thoughts (when cleaning under the couch: eat the Cheerio, pocket the penny. Unless your sweatpants don’t have pockets…),  Bossypants is honest, insightful and entertaining.

To put the cherry on top, Bossypants is also available as an audiobook read by Tina Fey herself. Voices, impersonations and all.

If you need some light reading (or listening) over the weekend, this book is it.

Give Yourself A Break

Taking a break means prioritising self-care in whatever way nourishes your soul. It could be taking a holiday, going to the hair dresser, doing a dance class, art class, or yoga, meditation, deep breathing, laughing with a friend, or visualising a happy place. “Stress mode” cannot coexist with “relaxation mode”, so find a way to relax and take a break.
