I’m going to level with you: this week has been a bit of a roller-coaster in our world, for no real reason.
Everyone has periods of inconsistency. There’s nothing big that sets them off.
But sometimes you just need a bit of a pick me up to get your head back in the game.
Given this, it’s no surprise that this week we are all about inspiration and support.
Just Little Things
This blog is nothing remarkable or complex. It embodies the meaning of “simple but effective”. Just Little Things is just that – small things to smile about.
Long, tight hugs.
Making a baby laugh.
Finally finding that missing sock.
The list goes on.
If you need a reminder of all to be grateful for in this world, head to the blog now.
Emma Betts – Dear Melanoma
We hate what Emma is facing. But we are inspired by her courage in using her experience to make a difference.
Emma is a newly married 22 year old Brisbanite. She has also been diagnosed with stage 4 Melanoma: a terminal condition. Rather than throwing in the towel and, in Bec Sparrow’s words, “watching Dr Phil and eating Milo out of the tin”, Emma has decided to make a difference.
She is dedicating her life to raising money for the Melanoma Institute and raising awareness around the disease. In a couple of weeks, she is launching a blog called ‘Dear Melanoma’ aimed at doing just that – and throwing a morning tea to celebrate. The launch is backed by writers like Bec Sparrow and Frances Whiting. And there will be cake.
Mark it in your diary. Buy yourself (and your friends) a ticket. Support Emma and make a difference.
Parentline
As much as your love your kids, every parent has had that “help me!” moment when you feel like locking the bedroom door and burying yourself in your pillows. Keeping your head above water is a constant struggle if you feel isolated, disconnected and alone.
When you need someone to talk to, give Parentline a call. Parentline is a confidential telephone service providing professional counselling and support for parents and carers of children.
Counsellors can help with parenting strategies for challenging behaviours, parent-child relationships, custody and access, and the emotional well-being of children and young people.
Through the phone line, parents, carers and family members have direct access to qualified counsellors and can choose to speak with either a male or female counsellor. They are also able to arrange to call back and speak with the same counsellor to work through their issues.
If you are having an off week, the line is open from 8am to 10pm every day to take your call.

Our Children Australia
The biggest question surrounding divorce for many couples is “What do we do about the kids?”. Shared parenting is a struggle – especially when the wounds from a broken relationship are still gaping. Mediation is the only way for some parents to resolve their relationship, but is also difficult to access for many.
Our Children aims to make life easier for newly single parents to navigate the issues that come with kids and divorce. The Our Children Australia website and tools were specifically designed to help you and your ex communicate in an effective way regarding your parenting responsibilities. Their aim is to take out the misunderstandings, confusion and subsequent arguments that can develop as a result of traditional communication between parents in a shared parenting situation.
Their resources will give you support and clarity. Visit the website here.
